Kathryn Edin is a professor of sociology at the University of Pennsylvania who
has recently published,
"Promises I Can
Keep: Why Poor Women Put Motherhood Ahead of Marriage." Robert Doar is the
Commissioner of the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance for the state
of New York, whose department is charged with developing a marriage program
aimed at low income women.

Viviana A. Zelizer is Lloyd Cotsen '50 Professor of Sociology at Princeton and
most recently author of "The
Purchase of Intimacy" (Princeton University Press, 2005). Professor Nancy
Folbre is Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts and
Associate Editor of the journal
Feminist Economics. She co-edited "Family Work: The Social Organization
of Care" with Michael Bittman (Routledge, 2004) and is author of "The
Invisible Heart" (New Press, 2001)." Zelizer and Folbre will discuss
personal care as a variety of work that involves a range of interpersonal ties
and poses serious problems of proper compensation.

Brownell and Roger Platt
Kelly Brownell will discuss the topic of childhood overweight and obesity.
Professor Brownell is the director of the Yale Center for Eating and Weight
Disorders. He is the author of multiple books, including
"Food Fight:
The Inside Story of the Food Industry, America's Obesity Crisis, and What We Can
do About It."
Roger Platt, M.D. is Director of School Health for New York City. In this role
he reports to both the Department of Education and the Department of Health and
Mental Hygiene. The Office is responsible for all health services and health
policy issues for a public school system with over one million students.
